Summer Classes

August 19 through August 23, 2019
A printable version of this schedule along with a registration form may be found HERE.

Summer classes are available for students three years of age through adult. All classes, except workshops and DANCEcamps are scheduled two times per week. Creative Rhythms is for children 3 to 5 years of age and is designed to develop coordination, self-confidence and rhythm in a relaxed introduction to dance. Beginning and Elementary ballet classes emphasize coordination, rhythm, flexibility, poise, and improved locomotor skills. Older students' classes emphasize technique, body placement and style.

SUMMER BALLET WORKSHOP I (June 3rd – June 20th)
This three week intensive workshop is a unique summer dance program for Advanced dancers, 14 years of age and older, including Ballet Midwest company dancers. In addition to daily technique classes taught by Barbara Ebert, dancers will also receive instruction in pointe, variations, choreography and injury prevention with proper stretching techniques, lyrical and conditioning class. Dancers will watch several films of professional dance companies. Workshop participants may attend any additional evening classes free of charge. A demonstration will conclude the workshop on June 20th at 5:30pm.

SUMMER BALLET WORKSHOP II (June 3rd – June 20th)
This three week long workshop is designed especially for Intermediate II-IV/ Advanced Intermediate dancers, 10 to 14 years of age, and the junior company of Ballet Midwest. Since daily technique classes will include beginning-pointe exercises, it is an excellent introduction for those students just starting pointe. Intermediate pointe will also be included for those who have had up to 4 years of pointe. This will be beneficial to those who wish to audition on pointe for Nutcracker. Like Workshop I, dancers will be offered a wide range of classes. Several films will be shown and a studio demonstration will conclude the workshop on June 20th at 5:30pm. Workshop participants may attend any additional evening classes free of charge.

DANCEcamp I (June 3rd – June 14th)
This fun, two week long workshop is for students 7 to 11 years of age who have completed Elementary II through Intermediate I levels. Classes will be held Monday – Friday of each week from 1:00-3:00pm. Along with daily ballet class, the dancers will study jazz, anatomy, music, nutrition, dance history and dance vocabulary. They will see a full-length ballet video while enjoying a healthy snack each day. This DANCEcamp will include all new materials from last summer. The camp will be enjoyed by those who attended last year, as well as new enthusiasts. Parents may visit the last class.

DANCEcamp II (June 3rd - June 14th)
This is a great introduction to workshop classes for students 4 to 8 years of age.  Classes are held Monday-Friday of each week from 6:00 to 8:00pm.  Along with daily ballet class, the dancers will study jazz, anatomy, music, nutrition, dance history, and dance vocabulary.  They will see a full-length ballet video while enjoying a healthy snack each day.  A notebook will be made to take home and parents are invited to a demonstration on the last day of the workshop.
Technique and conditioning classes will be held for one week for advanced dancers wanting to be in top shape for Nutcracker auditions. Lacee Ebert will be teaching this workshop. Two levels are available.
Technique and choreography will be taught for one week for dancers 7 to 11 years of age. Workshop III is for dancers who started on pointe in June. Workshop IV is for dancers not yet on pointe. Madison Meenen will be teaching this workshop to help dancers be ready for Nutcracker auditions.
